講座內(nèi)容簡(jiǎn)介:
Style guides, reflecting something of the concerns of teachers and practitioners, play an important role in instructing the teaching of academic writing and students’ language use in their own texts. Not included within the discussion on style guides (e.g. Bennet, 2009), however, is the empirical question of whether the prescriptive rules re?ect patterns of language use in actual academic discourses. In this presentation, I seek to fill the gap by drawing on three recent corpus-based studies (Hyland & Jiang, 2017; Jiang & Wang, 2018; Jiang & Hyland, under review) to explore the discrepancies between stylistic prescriptions and authorial practice of language use in professional research writing.
